Important News and Developments

Our New Store

Since Sport Systems first took online entries in 2004 we have developed customised stores for over 60 events and races. As many of you will know from experience each of these stores is a separate entity in its own right requiring a customer to have an account for each one. We are therefore pleased to announce that we have recently introduced a single integrated store that will be used for all our events and races. During the later part of 2009 and through 2010 we will be gradually closing the old stores and moving them over to the new store.

What Differences Will You See?

The principal difference that you will see is in the look and feel of the store. While we continue to emulate the look and feel of the events “home” site our new store does look different and you will have to become familiar with some new navigation paths. One difference that you may notice is in the URL. In the past these have been sportsystes.net/event name. The new URL is sportsystems.co.uk/ss/event name.

Naturally when a new site is launched there can be rapid changes as new features are added. Please bear with us during this period and naturally we will welcome your feedback and observations.

Even if you are an existing user of a sportsytems.net site you will need to create an account for sportsystems.co.uk/ss the first time you use it but once this is done…its done!

Interactive Results

One benefit of the new store is that we have developed an interactive results service. We are well down the path of migrating our results, previously published as PDF’s, to a searchable database. Please bear with us if you spot any that are missing. In fact if you do please let us know as a thousand eyes are better than two! The interactive results allow you to slice and dice the results for an individual race a variety of ways and what’s more you can also see all your performances (that we have results for) in a single place. Even better you can see those for your friends (and enemies) for comparison! In due course we will plan to allow any race using our RaceMaster software to post their results on the site.

Watford Half Marathon	Sun Feb 7 2010	South	Road
Watford Athletic Clubs’ half marathon is always a popular race early in the year. Starting and finishing is the centrally located Cassiobury Park the course is undulating and features attractive country roads and lanes. There will be no entries on the day as its always sold out.

Tough Ten	Sun Feb 14 2010	South	multi-terrain
When Bill Bryson visited Weston super Mare his one mistake was not to time his arrival with the Tough Ten! This is ten mile multi-terrain race designed to be within the capabilities of any normally fit runner or jogger. The course uses sections of (closed) tarmac road along the seafront and coast, a section of the promenade, woodland paths and trails within Worlebury Woods. You will also get to run along the beach. In parts is it flat and fast; in others there are short climbs and long down hill sections.

Wokingham Half Marathon	Sun Feb 21 2010	South	Road
Sport Systems are pleased to have been selected again by the Wokingham Half Marathon to time their February race. This will be the another ideal place to prepare for the London Marathon on a course that is fast and generally flat with all the added bonus that the route is closed to traffic.

Sussex Beacon Brighton Half Marathon	Sun Feb 21 2010	South	Road
Sunday 21 February 2010 Starting at 9:45pm. Sport Systems are pleased to return to time this highly popular pre-London Half Marathon with a fantastic atmosphere! The race will have a starting list of up to 5,000 runners and is expected to sell out so don’t wait for a weather forecast, book now before its too late.

Eastbourne Half Marathon	Sun Mar 7 2010	South	Road
Sunday 7 March 2010 starting at 10.00am. Sport Systems spring tour of Sussex seaside resorts continues at Eastbourne with their half marathon. The junior in terms of age (to the Beacon and Hastings) it is nevertheless growing in popularity and reputation. The race starts in Princes Park and mostly follows the seafront promenades towards Beachy Head and back to Sovereign Harbour where the course loops back to the finish which is located in Princes Park.

Bath Half Marathon	Sun Mar 7 2010	South	Road
“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a person looking for a spring half marathon, must be in want of an entry for Bath…but they had better enter soon”. Sorry Jane, but with a start and finish in the Regency grandeur of Great Poultney Street the Bath Half Marathon has one of the most spectacular backdrops for any race. It also has a momentum all of its own as two thirds of the fifteen thousand of places had gone within four weeks of entries opening.

Fradley 10K	Sun Mar 14 2010	Midlands	Road
The Fradley 10K is a popular event with past competitors willing to run the Fast and flat course two times around the village of Fradley. With good review, a race limit of 700 and a Fun Run this is an event to keep an eye on!

Hastings Half Marathon	Sun Mar 21 2010	South	Road
Sunday 21 March 2010 starting 10.30am. The Hastings Half Marathon is organised by the Hastings Lions Club to raise monies for needy causes and to promote historic Hastings. It is ideal preparation for the London Marathon, both in training and getting big event experience! With a 4,000 strong field that in 2006 included ten Williams but no Harolds runners are supported by three choirs, two bands and other live music en-route. What more do you need to help you battle and then conquer the 13.1 miles?.

Ironbridge	Sun Mar 21 2010	Midlands	Road
Do you like to mix sport and culture? If the answer is “Yes” then this is a race for you! The gorge in the River Severn at Ironbridge is a UNESCO world heritage site known throughout the world as the symbol of the Industrial Revolution. At its heart is the Ironbridge, the world's first bridge constructed of iron, which had a considerable influence on developments in the fields of technology and architecture.

Bushy Park Trail Run	Sun Mar 28 2010	South	Cross-Country
Sunday 28 March 2010 - Bushy Park Trail Run (not Time Trial!). Cross-country 4.8 miles starts at 11:15am and the junior 2.4 miles starts at 10:45am. Ideal for novice and advanced runners alike with team prizes, from Hampton Wick Royal Cricket Club (the one you run past on the BPTT)

Wakefield Hospice City 10K	Sun Mar 28 2010	South	Road
Run in aid of the Wakefield Hospice the 15th running of this popular Yorkshire 10K also includes a wheelchair competition and fun runs. It comes with the endorsement of Dame Tanni Grey Thompson DBE who says "... I would definitely recommend that everyone takes part in this event!" So what are you waiting for? Enter now!

Paddock Wood	Sun Apr 11 2010	South	Road
Sunday 4 April 2010 Starting at 9:30am (9:45am for the Fun Run). This race is currently the largest in Kent, with entries in excess of 1,900 and growing. The event is well-known for its good organisation, excellent and scenic course and its friendly and lively atmosphere, making it a firm favourite with runners from far and wide.

Belvoir Half Marathon	Sun Apr 11 2010	South	Road
Now entering its 28th year the Belvoir Half Marathon is another popular pre-FLM run set in beautiful Leicestershire countryside. Centred on the village of Hose and the village hall in particular it attracts runners with a wide range of abilities from across the region. If you are travelling from further a field Melton Mowbray is the closest large town offering accommodation, its famous pies and Stilton cheese

Sunday 18th April 2010 starting at 9.30am. If you are after a well established and well marshalled event this is the one for you! A Fast flat and very scenic route doing "just what it says on the tin" along the Thames Towpath!

Ox5	Sun Apr 18 2010	South	Road
Blenheim Palace is the magnificent venue for the Ox5 Run which takes place in support of the Oxford Children’s Hospital Campaign. Now in its tenth year Sports Systems will be making their appearance timing this event where the emphasis is on raising funds for this worthwhile couse.

Flitwick 10K	Sun Apr 18 2010	South	Road
The course is a fast, scenic and undulating course based on the original Flitwick 10k course. Starting in Temple Way the course follows a route out of Flitwick towards the village of Steppingley before looping back into Flitwick and finishing on Millennium Green.

Brighton Marathon	Sun Apr 18 2010	South	Road
The race route will take in the best of the city centre and fabulous stretches of coastal road, including panoramic views that you’d expect where the glorious South Downs meet the English Channel. Generally, it is a fast course, held exclusively on roads and tarmac promenade. The entire route will be free of traffic. Of course there are some undulations in the route, principally in the first half of the race, while the second half - good news this for entrants - will be very flat. The Finish is in Madeira Drive, just east of the famous Brighton Pier. The last mile in particular will be along the seafront road alongside thousands of cheering spectators.

Tonya's Challenge	Sun Apr 25 2010	South	Cycling
Sport Systems are getting ever more requests for innovative uses of our chip timing system and Tonya's Challenge is one such case. So if you would like to hop on your bike and ride anywhere from 5.5 miles to 37 miles with the advantage of us timing you then take up Tonya's Challenge.

Grand East Anglia Run	Sun May 2 2010	Midlands	Road
This is a fast, flat single lap course winding its way through historic King's Lynn starting and finishing in the town centre's Tuesday Market Place. If you have not run the event since 2007 the course has been changed very slightly making even faster. The team at BCKLWN are pleased to announce that the Legendary Ron Hill has entered the race and will be presenting some of the prizes.

Marlow 5	Sun May 9 2010	South	Road
Looking for a spring PB? Here’s a fast, flat race to bring a smile to your face. It starts in beautiful Higginson Park, right next to the River Thames. If you’re feeling sociable, then get together with your mates and enter the team competition – there are prizes for first UKA club (male & female), company and sports/social. But make sure you get your entry in soon, as it’s very popular and fills up quickly! All proceeds go to Chilterns MS Centre Limited.

The Little Lumpy cycle sportive is back. Although the Haslemere Festival is bi-annual, we got such a good feedback from riders and the town, that we have decided to make it an annual event.

Another Sport Systems timing team will be in Staines for this popular 10K. Organised by Runnymede Runners, Spelthorne Council and Staines Strollers this is the second year that Sport Systems will time the race and provide entry management.

Potters Arf	Sun Jun 13 2010	Midlands	Road
The Potters ‘Arf is a 13.1 mile race around the streets of Stoke on Trent and includes just one or two steep climbs! This will be the 6th running of the race and it gets bigger and better every year. There are cash awards and medals for the leading runners as well as commemorative souvenirs for all finishers. Race numbers are limited to 2,000 places so please don’t leave it too late to enter.

The Martlets Midnight Walk is a 13 mile sponsored walk through the streets of Brighton & Hove, starting at midnight. The walk raises funds for the Martlets Hospice, we help people affected by life limiting illness living in and around Brighton & Hove.

The annual five mile run is organised by the Claygate Flower & Village Show Society. The run follows a route which, apart from the final mile, is nearly all on footpaths on and around Arbrook Common. Where you will only be challenged by moderate hills are encountered. In addition there is a Family Section. The pair with the lowest combined finishing places wins!

The 2009 Doug Anderson Memorial 5K takes place in Bedford Park, Park Avenue, Bedford. The race limit is 400 and entry on the night will be available.

After the 2008 Chippenham Half Marathon with over 1000 finishers and rave reviews on the Runner’s World forum, this event had got a reputation for sell out! And is popular with runners of all abilities. Well placed in September to take advantage of the late summer warmth, it won’t make running a Half Marathon a breeze but with the aid of a supportive crowds and good marshalling you will have a blast participating!

Paras 10	Sun Sep 12 2010	South	multi-terrain
12 September 2010 starting at 10:00am. Returning for its third year the Para’s 10 is a multi-terrain endurance run following the route used by the Parachute Regiments 'P' Company Selection. There are two races. The open race is for individuals and is run in standard running gear, but the P Company Challenge is just that - it challenges you to complete the course in a pair of boots whilst carrying a 35lbs rucksack! There is a team competition in this event too.
